Spring Forward!

Hey Texas FFA,
I hope all is well for my fellow FFA members in our great association. With the school year coming to an end it seems as if this one has flown by a bit faster than the rest. With so much already behind us there is still a lot ahead, such as the last practices and contest of our career development events and the last little bits of our show season.
I recently returned from my own county show which brought back so many memories. I can remember countless memories on the road or in the show barn or ring which make me wish I was back in the game. You think you would have had enough of that atmosphere after showing since the age of eight, but I don’t think that I could ever get enough.
Speaking of show season Houston livestock show and rodeo is right at our doorstep. I could possibly find myself in Houston once again in search of a good reminder of the years I spent in the livestock barn prepping my various animals for show. Many of you will be there as well hoping for a wealthy conclusion to a fierce and backbreaking show season. I myself was lucky enough to make the sale three times with my swine projects at Houston which never seemed to get any easier as the years went on. I love the competitive atmosphere and difficulty of this particular show which made it my favorite of all.
Spring break is also just right around the corner and actually only two days away for us Tarleton State Texans. I can see a sense of excitement in the eyes of my fellow students on campus which makes me realize how difficult my first year of college has been. I have also been in your shoes before and I am sure that you all are more than excited. Students are heading to various vacation spots but I will be spending my time back home in Cleburne which is only a forty five minutes stretch for Stephenville which doesn’t seem like much of a vacation at all. But I would never pass up a chance on getting to see my family and friends back home. So I will be spending my break getting back to my roots and working on the family farm recalling the good times spent there as well.
I wish you all good luck in the conclusion of show season as well as career development events! Be safe wherever your travels might take you over spring break and don’t forget where you came from.
See ya down the road,
Dean Black
